Dr. JQ: DAIRY CONGRESS AND EXPO 09 CWC NAGA CITY CAMARINES SUR

I attended the Dairy Congress and Expo 09 held at the CWC Convention Center Camarines Sur where I presented Agspart2020 Foundation Inc.- a Livestock Expertise Center supported by the Wageningen International, PTC+ and La Ventana ASA, all of the Netherlands. I am presently a Consultant of Wageningen International and Coordinator of Agspart2020 in the Philippines.

At the Congress were several brods and sis- Japo Ignacio of Gromax-Vitarich, Ethel Wolda of LandO’Lakes, previously of CSSAC, Jay Loren Bunsocan and Jenner F. Palencia of Lanao Foundation Inc Dairy. The big bosses brods of DA were also there – LDC Exec. Dir. Caloy Mendoza and DA RFU V Exec. Dir. Joe Dayao. Seen at the CWC Watersport Clubhouse ogling “Dyagans” in teeny-weeny string bikinis was Pet Abuan of Magnolia Poultry.

The congress is an annual national event of the Dairy Confederation of the Philippines – umbrella private organization of the several dairy associations and cooperatives in the country. The 12th congress is hosted by the Bicol Alliance of Dairy Producers Inc. and supported by the National Dairy Authority (NDA), Livestock Development Council (LDC), Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) and the LandO’Lakes Foundation Philippines Inc.

We produce only 1-2% of our dairy requirement and import the majority of our supply from Australia and New Zealand. There is renewed interest in local darying due to the demand for real fresh milk from the coffee specialty stores led by Starbucks which is reportedly buying 7,000+ liters a month. The bulk of local production is coming from Holstein (75+%)-Sahiwal cross cows imported from New Zealand. Farmgate milk prices range from P20 to P25 per liter.

Brod PVMA President Bobot Carlos was also at the Congress. He was finalizing the arrangements for the PVMA Convention 2010 which is going to be held in a new hotel in Naga City, commercial capital of Camarines Sur. Delegates to the convention will enjoy the CWC Watersports Complex and the newly-famous Caramoan Beaches – host to several international “Survivor” TV series and is boasted to rival the world-famous Boracay paradise. Mayon Volcano, Daraga Ruins and the Dugongs are just nearby in Legaspi City, Albay and Donsol, Sorsogon. So, see you all there in February 2010.
